Encourage your child’s creativity and enjoy a simple craft together. Young children and their parents/caregivers are invited to drop-in to Storyroom C anytime between 10:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. where a different craft will be featured on each date.

Children in grades 2-5 can experience reading to special therapy dogs. This stress-free, nonjudgmental environment allows children to build confidence in their reading. To reserve your 15 minute reading slot, register in person at the Reader Assistance Desk with a valid District card beginning Thursday, March 25.

 

Baby Signs

Thursday, April 15, 10:00 - 11:00 a.m.

Join us to learn how babies and toddlers have a lot to say…even before they can actually speak! They can communicate with simple signs for words like "eat," "milk," and "more." Research indicates that signing helps babies develop intellectual and language skills and enriches parent- child relationships. Register with a valid District card beginning Thursday, April 1.

 

Mother’s Day Craft

Family Laughter ClubFamily Laughter Club

Join us for a program that combines laughter, gentle stretching exercises, and talking about good-hearted living (and chocolate!). Children under the age of 9 must be accompanied by an adult. Family Safety Program

Monday, April 5, 7:00 - 7:30 p.m.

Join Sesame Street Muppets Grover and Rosita as they discover how to prepare for emergencies. This program for preschool children and their parents will include a video and discussion by a representative of the Palatine Emergency Management Agency. Families will receive a packet of information to take home. Register beginning Monday, March 1, ext. 132.

 

National Poetry Month Contest

Thursday, April 1 through Friday, April 30

Wordsmiths unite! Celebrate National Poetry Month by sharing your work with us during the month of April. Children, teens, and adults may submit up to 2 original poems for a chance to win a prize in a drawing. Submissions will be accepted in person and via email. Entries will be displayed in the Main  Library. Official entry forms and complete guidelines will be available at all Library locations beginning Monday, March 15.

 

Pint Size Polkas

Saturday, April 17, 1:00 - 2:00 p.m.

Celebrate National Library Week with an entertaining and educational musical experience! Uncle Mike’s snappy polka beat will captivate children of all ages as they learn about the alphabet, numbers, careers and other topics. You may even pick up a fancy new dance step! Following the performance, we’ll treat you to a tour of the children’s area. Tickets will be available beginning Saturday, April 3 to valid District cardholders. Sponsored by a grant from

 

Mothers Are Special

Tuesday, May 4, 10:00 - 10:30 a.m.

Begin your Mother’s Day celebration a few days early! Preschoolers are invited to bring their mothers and grandmothers to our story program featuring moms. We’ll share lovely stories, funny stories, and exciting stories about all the ways that mothers care for their families. The program will include audience participation, music, and fun. Dads and grandpas are also welcome to attend.

Hairy Hooligan Training Camp

Calling all Hairy Hooligans! Are you a would-be hero destined for greatness? Prepare for a life of (mis)adventure at a party celebrating How to Train Your Dragon by Cressida Cowell. We’ll discuss the series, play Pin-the-Tail-on-the-Dragon, practice our Dragonese, and fortify ourselves with Crazy Dragon Crunch and Salty Sword Snacks. Prizes will be awarded. Grades 3-6. Register with a valid District card beginning Tuesday, February 23.

 

The Rope WarriorThe Rope Warrior

Join us for an amazing performance by Guinness World Record Holder, David Fisher, a.k.a The Rope Warrior. His high-energy, high-impact show covers everything from the basics to the truly unbelievable. Audience members will get a chance to help demonstrate different types of jumps and to challenge The Rope Warrior to attempt specific dance steps while jumping rope. A choreographed routine and a breathtaking finale conclude each show. Tickets will be available beginning Wednesday, March 10 to valid District cardholders.

 

Special Italian Storytime

Cookie Monsters Story Programs at Whole Foods MarketMark your calendar to join the Palatine Public Library District at Whole Foods Market in Palatine for Cookie Monsters, a cookie-making and storytelling class! Each month we’re featuring seasonal stories paired with a complementary recipe. For up-to-the-minute details on recipe & story pairings at these programs, visit www.wholefoodsmarket.com. Children 3-6 years old with parents are welcome. Admission of $5.00 per child will be charged by Whole Foods Market. Capacity is 15 children per program.
