Digital Media Center Procedures and Guidelines

Procedures

Library patrons 11 and up may use the Digital Media Center equipment. Library patrons ages 10 and under must have a parent or responsible adult accompany them in any of the media studios or while utilizing any iMac station. The Digital Media Center studios and iMac computer stations are available for three hours at a time. Library patrons may stay longer if there is no demand for the studios or iMac stations at the end of their three hour time slot.

Use of the Digital Media Center is open to Palatine Public Library District cardholders only.

The Digital Media Center iMac stations are available on a first-come, first-served basis. The Digital Media Center studios are available on a first-come, first-served basis unless previously reserved. Library patrons may reserve a studio up to two weeks in advance for a maximum of three hours per day per patron. Reservations can be placed in person or by phone to the Digital Media Center staff at (847) 358-5881 ex.180.

To use any of the Digital Media Center studios or iMac stations, Library patrons must register for use at the Digital Media Center staff desk. Library patrons must leave one form of identification, including a Palatine Public Library card, while using any of the four studios in the Digital Media Center.

No food or drinks are allowed in any of the Digital Media Center studios.

Guidelines

Behavior in the Digital Media Center is to be consistent with the Library’s policies. Internet and equipment usage must be consistent with the Library’s Digital Resources policy and corresponding appendices.

Equipment

Some equipment in the Digital Media Center, including videocamcorders, digital cameras, external hard drives, and voice to MP3 devices, are available for 3 day checkout. It is the responsibility of the Library patron to delete and/or remove any of files from Library equipment. The Library is not responsible for equipment or files damaged or left behind by patrons.

Each registered patron is solely responsible for all materials borrowed and services obtained on his or her library card.
