What We're Reading
Our book blog for kids. See more.
School is wrapping up, and 12-year-old Mai is looking forward to spending the summer bonding with her BFF, hanging out at the beach, and maybe (finally) finding the courage to actually talk to her crush. But Mai's parents have other plans: they want Mai to accompany her aging grandmother (Ba) on a shot-in-the-dark pilgrimage to her native country--VIETNAM! Mai's grandfather (Ong) has been missing since the Vietnam War, and Ba steadfastly maintains that he is still alive. Suddenly, Mai is whisked halfway around the world to spend two months in a tiny village with limited internet access.
At the Library
Cool things to do for kids and families.
The Book Buddies program matches young readers (entering grades K-4 in fall 2015) with teen volunteers. Together, they'll share stories and tie-in activities at themed sessions designed to help bust boredom, maintain and grow skills, and gain confidence in reading.
This summer, the Library is offering two sessions of Book Buddies. Each session runs for 4 consecutive weeks, and a different theme will be featured at each meeting. Sign up for the session that best fits your schedule - or sign up for both!
