ONE BOOK Event: How Can You Be a Good Parent When Your Own Life Is Full of Stress?

Posted by: GwenythU | Posted on: Feb 14 2012

When you are distracted by your own problems, how can you communicate effectively with your children? Can you teach them how to be their own best selves despite the obstacles in their way?

Kathryn Price O'Dell, a Parent Program Consultant, will present a program on effective parenting at the Palatine Public Library on Sunday, February 26, at 2:00 p.m.

"I will be talking about the Love and Logic program," says Ms. O'Dell. "This approach provides parents with easy-to-learn skills that help children learn respect, responsibility, and good decision-making. What you say to them can encourage positive behavior."

The Love and Logic communication system is also effective in interactions with family, friends, co-workers, and everyone else you meet.

A question and answer period will follow the presentation, and a display of Library books on related topics will be available for checkout.

This program is part of the Library's February 2012 ONE BOOK series, featuring speakers on the themes in the novel ROOM by Emma Donoghue. Register online at or by phone at 847-358-5881, ext. 132.
