Physical or emotional abuse, assault, separation, divorce--many situations can leave you needing advice and support, and leave your family and friends wondering how best to help you.
Speaker Anna Vann, coordinator of the Domestic Violence Services at Northwest Community Hospital, will discuss ways to recover from trauma and how to form healthy relationships in a program at the Palatine Public Library on Thursday, February 23 at 7:00 p.m.
Ms. Vann says, "For the presentation I will define trauma, the effects of trauma including PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder), anxiety disorders, panic attacks and depression, and the process of recovery."
Friends and family members of people undergoing stress will also benefit from this presentation, which will help them understand how to help and when professional assistance may be needed.
A question and answer period will follow the presentation, and a display of Library books on related topics will be available for checkout.
This program is part of the Library's February 2012 ONE BOOK series, featuring speakers on the themes in the novel ROOM by Emma Donoghue. Register online at www.palatinelibrary.org or by phone at 847-358-5881, ext. 132.
