Palatine Public Library District Volunteer Program
Looking for a way to be a part of the Palatine Public Library District? Volunteer!
The Library has a variety of volunteer opportunities:
- Ongoing Volunteers commit to a minimum of 2 hours per week or volunteer as scheduled by staff,
- Special Project Volunteers assist staff completing special projects or events,
- Short Term Volunteers (3 months or less) are those seeking to fulfill volunteer requirements for school or other organizations and must be required to serve a minimum of 15 hours, and
- Youth Programs and Special Projects are volunteer opportunities especially for youths between the ages of 11 and 15.
Please note: The Palatine Public Library District is unable to accept court-ordered or court-supervised community service.
There are currently opportunties for:Ongoing Volunteers:
Circulation Volunteer - Volunteers assist the Circulation Department by shelving holds and casing cd's and dvd's. Tuesday and Thursday afternoons and evenings are available. Short term volunteers may apply for these opportunities.
New Fiction Volunteer – Assist staff in our Popular Materials Department by removing older books and adding new books to the New Fiction sections and completing other tasks as assigned. Must be available Tuesday afternoons or evenings.
ESL Conversation Group Volunteers: Do you like meeting and interacting with people from all over the world? Assist others with their spoken English in our ESL Conversation Group which meets twice a month starting in September, 2015, with an August training session. Crafternoon Volunteers - Are you “crafty”? We want you! We are seeking volunteers age 21 and over to periodically help with our evening and weekend craft programs. Friday morning help is also needed. Contact Phil Skeltis at 847-358-5881 x 164 for further information.
Special Project Volunteers:
There are currently no Special Project Volunteer opportunities available at this time.
Short Term Volunteers:
Short Term Volunteers may apply for the Circulation and New Fiction Volunteer opportunities listed under "Ongoing Volunteers".
Youth Programs and Special Projects:
There are currently no Youth Programs and Special Projects Volunteer opportunities available at this time.
How to Apply
Volunteers must be a valid Palatine Public Library District cardholder. Policy 8-12 of Policy 8 - Community Relations provides further information regarding the volunteer program and requirements to become a volunteer. Volunteers between the ages of 11-15 may only apply for Youth Programs and Special Project opportunities.
Volunteer applications are available at the Welcome Desk at the main library and at each of the Library’s branches, or you can download the form. Please remember to indicate the volunteer opportunity you are interested in on the application.

Additional Youth and Teen Volunteer Opportunities
In addition to the Palatine Public Library District Volunteer Program, the Library has a Teen Advisory Board (TAB). This program is through our Popular Materials Department and has a separate application. TAB meets monthly during the school year. Additional information regarding TAB can be found on the Teen Advisory Board page. Applications for TAB are available in July/August each year.
