Volunteers need a valid Palatine Public Library District card. We are unable to accommodate court-ordered or court-supervised community service.  

Opportunities for Adults

These positions are open to residents 16 years old and up.

Early Literacy Center Volunteer 

Location: Main Library
Date/time: Tuesdays 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Duration: Ongoing

The Early Literacy Center Volunteer helps staff maintain the Early Literacy Center by cleaning Toddler Storytime toys; cleaning picture books, pulling books from the picture book section from a printed list; straightening and cleaning the Early Literacy play area once the Storytime crowd disperses.  This opportunity requires reaching, bending, squatting and kneeling to complete tasks.  


Short term volunteers opportunities are available for students interested in volunteering to fulfill school requirements. Please check Opportunities for Adults for those marked Short Term.  

Opportunities for Teens

Teen Advisory Board (TAB) 

TAB meets monthly during the school year and members assist at various programs throughout the year.  Applications are available in July/August each year through our Popular Materials Department.  Please check the newsletter for further information.

Summer Reading Volunteers

Volunteers entering Grades 7-12 can apply for a volunteer opportunity based on their interests and summer schedules.  Applications are accepted May 1-15 through our Popular Materials Department. Please check the newsletter for further information.  

Youths ages 11-15 may only apply to serve as volunteers for designated youth programs and special projects.
