Volunteers need a valid Palatine Public Library District card. We are unable to accommodate court-ordered or court-supervised community service.  

Opportunities for Adults

These positions are open to residents 16 years old and up.

Technical Services Volunteer

Location: Main Library
Date/time: Multiple Opportunities Available
Duration: Ongoing 

Help our Technical Services department open and sort packages of new items.  Remove shrink wrap from audiovisual materials, unbox new books and place items in order on a book cart.  Additional duties may include operating our disc cleaning machine or searching for items by call number out in the Library.  Must have the ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.  Three opportunities available - Monday, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 p.m. - 2:00 p.m.

Circulation Volunteer

Location: Main Library
Date/time: Saturday Afternoon
Duration: Ongoing or Short Term

Assist the Circulation Department by shelving holds, casing cd's and dvd's, and assisting staff as necessary. Volunteers must commit to volunteering two hours each week on their scheduled day.  This opportunity requires reaching, bending, squatting and kneeling to complete the tasks. Must be available Saturday afternoon. Volunteers must pass a short Circulation quiz prior to being placed as a Circulation Volunteer.  Short Term volunteers may apply for these opportunities.

Early Literacy Center Volunteer 

Location: Main Library
Date/time: Tuesdays 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m.
Duration: Ongoing

The Early Literacy Center Volunteer helps staff maintain the Early Literacy Center by cleaning Toddler Storytime toys; cleaning picture books, pulling books from the picture book section from a printed list; straightening and cleaning the Early Literacy play area once the Storytime crowd disperses.  This opportunity requires reaching, bending, squatting and kneeling to complete tasks.

Opportunities for Teens

Teen Advisory Board (TAB) 

TAB meets monthly during the school year and members assist at various programs throughout the year.  Applications are available in July/August each year through our Popular Materials Department only.  Please check the newsletter for further information.

Summer Teen Volunteers

The application deadline to apply for one of our summer volunteer teams was May 15. Learn more about our Summer 2018 Teen Volunteers.

 

Youths ages 11-15 may only apply to serve as volunteers for designated youth programs and special projects.
