Safety and Privacy at the Library

Palatine Library District strives to provide a welcoming space for everyone and a safe environment to the best of our ability. With that in mind, we want to acknowledge the current climate regarding Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) and its impact on our ability to provide a safe place for our members.

The Library is a public space, and we cannot keep ICE agents from entering our parking lot and Library. Once the Library is aware of an ICE presence, staff have guidelines to contact leadership and security to monitor and handle the situation. Palatine Library does not assist or collaborate with ICE agents in any way, unless we are legally obligated to provide information in compliance with a valid judicial warrant signed by a judge.

Our Branch locations are housed in buildings managed by community partners, and ICE entry into these buildings is subject to their policies. However, once agents enter a Library Branch, our guidelines above apply.

Commitment to Privacy

We welcome everyone at the Library, and we're committed to respecting your privacy. We do not require a member's immigration status to register for a Library card or use our services. All Library records are confidential.
