You may also submit a paper application, available at all Library locations. Some opportunities require a special application (as noted below).
Volunteers need a valid Palatine Public Library District card and must commit to volunteering a minimum of 15 hours for most positions (except special programs or events).
OPPORTUNITIES FOR ALL AGES:
FACILITIES VOLUNTEER
Location: Main Library
Date/Time: 4-5 hours a week.
Duration: Long-Term
Support Facilities by recycling old books.
COLLECTIONS VOLUNTEER
Location: Main Library
Date/Time: Friday mornings.
Duration: Long-Term
Support the Collections Department with the Library discard wall and cleaning of discs. Volunteer needs to be able to physically lift items and push carts.
Opportunities for Adults
HOMEBOUND DELIVERY VOLUNTEER
Location: Main Library
Date/Time: Second Tuesday of the month/one time per month
Duration: Long Term
Support the Adult Services Department by delivering books to our homebound members in the northeast area of Palatine. Must possess a valid drivers license, insurance and be able to use your own vehicle to make deliveries. This opportunity involves having to lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
WORKSHOP VOLUNTEER
Location: Main Library
Date/Time: Weekly - 2-4 hour sessions
During makerspace drop-in hours:
Weekdays - T/W/Th - 12:00pm - 6:00pm
Weekends - 12:00pm - 4:00pm
Duration: Long Term/Continuing
Support the Workshop staff with assisting members in our makerspace by answering questions, helping with projects and creating a positive user experience. Being comfortable with design software and a variety of crafting equipment is preferred. This opportunity involves having to lift/carry up to 25 pounds.
Opportunities for Teens
TEEN SERVICE PROJECTS - for grades 6-12
Need volunteer hours? The Library is providing individual 2 hour service projects throughout the summer. Service projects are listed on the Library's Events calendar with sign up beginning two weeks prior to each event. Volunteers must have completed the volunteer application above and had it accepted by the Library before they can register for an event.
MEMBER SERVICES DEPARTMENT - for grades 9-12
Volunteers help shelve holds, alphabetize the children's collection, assist with evening cleanup, and may help with picking holds. An alphabetical quiz is required. A minimum commitment of 20 hours is needed, with shifts available on weeknights and weekends. To apply, click on "Apply Now' above.

TWEEN BOOK REVIEWERS - for grades 6-8
Work at your own pace by reading books of your choice and writing reviews for the Library. Volunteers earn 1 hour of service credit per accepted review submitted between September 1, 2024 and May 15, 2025. Reviews are compiled in a binder available to visitors in the Youth and Teen Services department. To apply, click on "Apply Now' above.
TEEN ADVISORY BOARD (TAB) - for grades 9-12
The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meets monthly during the school year and members assist at various programs throughout the year. Applicants must be in grades 9-12 to become a member. Applications are available August 1-15.
