You may also submit a paper application, available at all Library locations. Some opportunities require a special application (as noted).

Volunteers need a valid Palatine Public Library District card and must commit to volunteering a minimum of 15 hours. We are unable to accommodate court-ordered or court-supervised community service.  

Opportunities for Adults

 

Homebound Volunteer (2 Opportunities)

Location: Main Library
Date/time:  Thursday mornings or afternoons
Duration: Ongoing

Help us deliver library materials to homebound patrons. Deliveries will be made twice a month on Thursdays. Volunteers must possess a valid driver's license, insurance and be able to use their own vehicle to make deliveries.  Must have the ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.  Open to residents 18 years old and up. 

 

Technical Services Volunteer (2 Opportunities)

Location: Main Library
Date/time:  Tuesdays OR Fridays 12:00 - 2:00 p.m.
Duration: Ongoing or Short Term

We have two opportunities to help our Technical Services department open and sort packages of new items. Remove shrink wrap from audiovisual materials, unbox new books and place items in order on a book cart.  Must have the ability to push/pull up to 50 pounds and lift and carry up to 20 pounds.    Short term volunteers may apply for these opportunities. 

 

Administative Services Volunteer (1 Opportunity)

Location: Main Library
Date/time:  2x per month/afternoon for 2 hours
Duration: Ongoing or Short Term

Assist the Administrative Department with clerical, filing, data entry or assisting staff with other tasks as necessary.  This opportunity may require reaching, bending, squatting, and kneeling to complete the tasks. 

 

Opportunities for Teens

 

High School Senior - Branch Volunteer

Assist the North Hoffman Estates Branch on Mondays from 4:00-6:00 p.m.  The Branch Volunteer shelves books, shelf-reads to ensure books are in proper order and assists staff as needed.  The North Hoffman Branch is located at 3600 Lexington Drive, Hoffman Estates, IL. 

 

Summer Reading Program

Volunteers in 7th -12th grade will be needed for the Summer Reading Program which is June 1-August 14, 2020.  Applications will be available May 1-15, 2020.  

 

Teen Advisory Board

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) meets monthly during the school year and members assist at various program throughout the year.  Applications are available in August each year.
